WhatsApp reaches 500 million active users
WhatsApp has announced it has hit the 500 million active user mark. According to the company's blog, it users have grown faster in countries like Brazil, India, Mexico and Rusia. People are also sharing more than 700 million photos and 100 million videos every single day.
“We could go on, but for now, it’s
more important that we get back to work – because here at WhatsApp,
we’re just getting started.”, WhatsApp says added on the blog.
When Facebook announced plans to acquire WhatsApp in February, the service had already crossed 450 million active users, so it's quickly jumped by tens of millions since then.
WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows
its users to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp
Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone
and Nokia.
