Chilean Gross Domestic Product (GDP) gained 4.1% year on year in the
first quarter of 2013, Chilean Central Bank reported on Monday. On the same statement, the institution informed GDP from the fourth quarter 2012 was up 0.5 %, resulting in an
annualized growth rate of 2.0%. Analysts were expecting GDP to
come in at 4.5 %.
After it's monthly monetary meeting, the Chilean Central Bank decided to keep the monetary policy interest rate at 5% (annual). The board of the institution based it's decision in the improvements showed by the international financial conditions.
AES Gener presented it's financial information for the three first months of the current year. In this period, the company registered earnings of USD $62 million in the same period, 34% lower than the net income of USD $93 million in the same period in 2012. At the same time, it reported an EBITDA of US$167 million, which represents a decrease of 10% over the first quarter of 2012, principally the result of lower gross profit in 2013.
Coca Cola Embonor, one of the biggest chilean bottlers, with operations in Chile and Bolivia, reached a net profit of CLP $13,046 which represents an increase of 3.6% compared with the same period of last year, according to the information presented to the Chilean Securities and Insurance Supervisor (Superintendencia de Valores y Seguros - SVS).
Revenues of Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones ("Entel") increased 11% in the first three months of this year. Based on the consolidated information presented to the Chilean Securities and Insurance Supervisor (Superintendencia de Valores y Seguros - SVS), total revenues of the company reached CLP $377,646 millions, a bigger result compared with the CLP $ 340,321 millions of the last year. This situation could be explained by the good results in mobile and data services (including IT).According to preliminary information, last March Economic Activity Index ("IMACEC") increased 3.1% over the same month a year before, chilean Central Bank informed today. This results was under market expectations and consensus forecasts for this indicator.
The consolidated results of the chilean banking system
(incluiding Corpbanca's investment in Colombia) reached CLP $380,422
millions during the three first months of the year 2013, according to the
information released today by the Banking and Financial Institutions'
Superintendence (SBIF).
The net income of the state-owned ENAP was USD $ 52 million in the
first quarter of 2013, which compares favorably with the loss of US$110
million on march 31, 2012 (net change of USD $ 162 million from one period
to the other).
Aguas Andinas'
earnings for the first quarter of 2013 reached Ch$38,205 million, 8.6%
lower than the same period of the previous year, based on the
information presented by the company to the Chilean Securities and
Insurance Supervisor (Superintendencia de Valores y Seguros - SVS.
